A Gujarati poet and playwright, born in 1956 and long based in Boston, who wrote Master Phoolmani — his adaptation of Satish Alekar's Begum Barve, spiked with material from the life of Jayashankar Sundari. His plays include Kabro, Khelaiya, Ek Hati Rupli and Eva Mumbai Ma Chal Jaiye, and he later wrote the monologue New York New York for Ideas Unlimited. His first collection of poems, Ane Thoda Sapna, won the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad's award for the best new Gujarati poetry of 1992–93; both his collections, that one and Blue Jeans, have been set as texts for Masters students at SNDT University, Mumbai. He was artistic director of the Avantar Theatre Group of Boston, wrote and made documentaries and short films — one of which won the National Award for Best Experimental Film in 1982 — and worked as an actor, director, producer and journalist.
