A Hindi poet, novelist and playwright, born in 1963 at Buxar in Bihar. Hindwi and Kavita Kosh place him among the “navein dashak ke kavi” — the generation of Hindi poets who came up in the 1980s — and note that he works in fiction and for the stage as well as in verse. Hindwi carries some twenty-nine of his poems, among them Hijde, Safar, Barish and Manbodh Babu ke Naam Patra.

He has earned his living largely outside the literary establishment. For a stretch he ran a fortnightly newspaper out of Ara that he wrote and sold himself, with his wife Lakshmi Upadhyay as its publisher; he later spent years in Mumbai working on film and television. More recently his work has followed the Ganga — a publication called Ganga Samay on the river and the people living along it, a folk-music team assembled to collect and perform songs from the riverside villages, and a book of the journey, Gangotri se Gangasagar.

For Ideas Unlimited he wrote Popcorn with Parsai, the Hindi solo play on the satirist Harishankar Parsai that Manoj Shah directed and Dayashankar Pandey performed. It opened at the NCPA in Mumbai on 6 December 2014 and went on to run forty-eight shows. Mumbai Theatre Guide credits him as the writer; Wikipedia's entry on Manoj Shah describes the script as co-written by the two of them.
